Mathematics
Maths is an adventure for children (and adults) to be immersed in, get creative with, make mistakes, and conquer! At Ashleigh, for years 1-6, we currently use Power Maths - a UK curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths. Power Maths is created in partnership with White Rose Maths, and is written specifically for UK curriculum by leading mastery experts, recommended by the UK’s Department for Education (DfE).
We also use Times Tables Rockstars - a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every third week or so. Times Tables Rockstars helps to engage pupils to be able to recall their times tables at speed and support use of times tables within maths lessons.
Below, you can find further details of our maths curriculum, together with the Ventrus calculation policy which gives you details as to how we teach core calculation. At Ashleigh, we also prioritise the learning of core maths facts such as multiplication tables. By children knowing these core facts, it frees up working memory to allow them to work through more challenging maths.
