It has been so lovely to begin a new year together, and we are already looking forward to the arrival of spring with its sunshine, warmth, and the many opportunities it brings. Over the past few days, we have been putting the finishing touches on our Tudors topic. One of the highlights was a lively class debate exploring whether the legendary Sir Francis Drake should be remembered as a hero or a villain.

After weighing the evidence, we concluded that he was, in many ways, both. While we strongly disagree with his involvement in slavery and piracy, we also recognised that he made significant achievements that shaped history. We agreed that he should be remembered not only for his contributions but also as a reminder of the injustices of slavery and the importance of never returning to such practices.
To complete our Tudor learning journey, we spent time creating individual projects based on areas that interested us most. We’re proud of the thoughtful work produced and invite you to take a look at some of our work below.

This week marked the exciting launch of Cycle 2 in our partnership with Code to the Future! Our focus this term is coding within the VR VEX platform. Students began by exploring the platform and tackling a series of challenges designed to send their virtual robots around a number square. Everyone showed great problem-solving skills and successfully completed the tasks. This work is a fantastic way to strengthen STEM learning, helping students develop critical thinking, creativity, and computational skills. We’re thrilled with the progress so far and can’t wait to see what creative coding projects lie ahead for the rest of the term!
