Year 1 Visit to Caffyns Farm

What an absolutely fantastic day Year 1 had at Caffyns Farm! From the moment they arrived at school, the children were buzzing with excitement and ready for a day of adventure, learning and hands-on experiences.

We met the goats, including the kids, nannies and billy goats, and had the very special privilege of being the first group to visit and feed the baby goats. The children were incredibly quiet, gentle and caring, helping the kids to feel safe and comfortable. We were so proud of the maturity and respect they showed around the animals.

Throughout the day, we learnt all about the ponies and horses and discovered how much care and attention they need to stay healthy and happy. We were able to stroke Picnic and Billy the ponies who have grown thick coats ready for winter which has made them wonderfully soft and cuddly. One fact that caused lots of excitement was learning that a horse can do ten poos a day! The children thought this was hilarious and were very keen to tell everyone about it afterwards.

We also had great fun feeding Charlotte and Peach the alpacas, collecting eggs from the chicken coop and exploring the orchard. The children were fascinated to learn that a cherry tree in an orchard can help protect the apple trees from becoming sick!

Before lunch, we met the farm's noisy turkeys. Their loud gobbles certainly caught our attention and gave us plenty to talk and laugh about! Afterwards, we enjoyed our packed lunches beside the donkeys, Eeyore and Donkey, who made excellent lunchtime companions.

The children were outstanding ambassadors for our school throughout the visit. Their excellent behaviour, curiosity and enthusiasm impressed everyone they met. They listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions and embraced every opportunity to learn something new.

After such a busy day, it was no surprise that the journey home looked very different from the journey there! While the bus ride to the farm was filled with excited chatter as the children spotted sheep, cows, horses and tractors along the way, the trip back was accompanied by tired smiles, sleepy eyes and lots of gentle snoring. A sure sign of a truly memorable day and an adventure that Year 1 will be talking about for a long time to come!

Wonderful Recount Writing

Year 1 have amazed me with their fantastic farm trip recounts! The children worked so hard to remember all the exciting parts of our visit and put them into their writing. Their focus, creativity, and perseverance have been wonderful to see, and I couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved. The finished pieces look incredible on our Wow Writing display and are a real celebration of their hard work. What super writers we have in Year 1!
