Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at Ashleigh C of E Primary School

At Ashleigh C of E Primary School, we recognise and celebrate the diverse and individual needs of all our pupils. We are dedicated to providing an inclusive education that enables every child to achieve their full potential.

Learning To Love; Loving To Learn
-Life In All Its Fullness

Our approach is guided by the principles of the SEND Code of Practice. This means we focus on:
  • Positive intervention – identifying needs early and putting the right support in place.
  • Removing barriers to learning – ensuring every child can access the curriculum.
  • Raising expectations and achievement – helping all pupils to succeed.
  • Working in partnership – collaborating with parents, carers, and external agencies to provide the best possible educational experience.

What Ofsted Says About Our SEND Provision:
"Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported. Leaders identify the needs of pupils early. Consequently, teachers know the needs of their pupils and adapt the learning as it is needed."
(Ofsted Report, September 2022)

Devon Local Offer

Devon County Council is committed to ensuring that all children and young people have a good start in life. Some children and young people have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and these differing needs mean varied levels of support may be required at different times.

In Devon, we believe that children and young people with SEND should have the expectation to be part of their local community and to be included and educated alongside their peers. We aim to provide a range of support and opportunities to enable this to happen and these can be described as the ‘local offer’. This sets out what you can expect to be available to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged 0-25 along with Devon’s approach and underlying principles.
